Make Your Home More Comfortable

Residential window film can help improve comfort and privacy without replacing your existing windows. In the window film industry, residential and commercial building glass is commonly referred to as flat glass.

Glare Reduction

Window film can help reduce harsh sunlight on televisions, computer screens, furniture, and living areas.

Heat Control

Sun-facing rooms can become uncomfortable during bright or hot parts of the day. The right film can help reduce solar heat gain.

Privacy

Privacy film can help reduce visibility from outside while still allowing light into the home, depending on the film selected and lighting conditions.

Residential Pricing and Estimates

Residential flat glass pricing is generally based on the square footage of glass, the film selected, access, job size, and travel distance if outside Niagara Falls.

General Pricing

Residential flat glass tinting is generally charged at approximately $5 per square foot, supplied and installed.

Very small jobs may be subject to a minimum service charge, generally around $75, depending on the project.

No Free Home Estimates

Niagara Tinting generally does not visit homes to provide free estimates.

Customers should provide the measurements of each pane of glass they want tinted, along with photos of the windows where possible.

How to Request a Residential Estimate

Please email the details to info@niagaratinting.com. You may also call ahead with questions, but email is preferred for measurements, photos, and project details.

For each window, please provide the width and height of each pane of glass to be tinted. If multiple panes are the same size, they can be grouped together.

Photos of the windows are strongly preferred because they help identify access issues, window layout, surrounding trim, furniture, blinds, curtains, and other practical considerations.

Common Residential Uses

Every home is different. The right film depends on the window location, sunlight, glass type, and your goal for the space.

Living Rooms & Family Rooms

Reduce glare, improve comfort, and make bright rooms easier to use during sunny parts of the day.

Bedrooms & Private Areas

Improve privacy in rooms facing neighbours, sidewalks, driveways, or busy streets.

Entryways & Large Windows

Add privacy or reduce direct sunlight in areas with large glass, front-facing windows, or exposed entrances.

Choosing the Right Film

Residential film is not one-size-fits-all. A darker or more reflective film may improve privacy and glare control, but it may also change the appearance of the glass more noticeably.

Niagara Tinting has samples available at the shop, including a small sample window showing installed film. Take-home samples may also be available so customers can tape them to their own windows and view them at different times of day.

Residential Film Goals

  • Reduce glare
  • Improve privacy
  • Help with heat from sunlight
  • Reduce UV exposure
  • Improve comfort in bright rooms
  • Maintain a clean appearance

Important Things to Know

The best result comes from matching the film to the window, the room, and the customer’s expectations.

One-Way Mirror Limitations

Mirror and one-way privacy films work best when the exterior side is brighter and the interior side is darker.

They generally do not work well for nighttime privacy when lights are on inside the home.

Glass Type Matters

Some glass types require extra care when selecting film. Film choice should consider the type, size, and exposure of the window.

Security Film

Security film is not normally installed on houses. It is more commonly discussed for commercial or specialty applications.

Before a Residential Installation

Please make sure the window area is accessible before installation. Furniture, decorations, blinds, curtains, plants, or other items may need to be moved away from the glass.

If you are dealing with a specific problem, such as glare on a television, heat in a room, or privacy from a neighbour, it is helpful to explain that when contacting Niagara Tinting.

Niagara Tinting works during posted business hours and does not perform after-hours residential installation work.

Service Area

Niagara Tinting works in Niagara Falls and may also travel outside Niagara Falls for suitable projects.

Estimates may include a travel cost component depending on the location and size of the job.

Shop Samples

Customers can visit the shop to view film samples. A small sample window is available to show how film looks once installed.

Samples may be taken home and temporarily taped to windows so they can be viewed in sunny, overcast, daytime, and nighttime conditions.
